Just Sit Outside

We inhale then we blink then exhale, blink again

We look up from our spot on the ground and we think

And we blink and we breath and we think and we blink

And at times—three times, if you’re healthy that way

We eat while we think and we breath and we blink

We chew and we taste, then we swallow and we don’t

We feel then we don’t anymore, when it’s over

We go on about our day like before

Like before, and like before

And we work and we work and we work and we work

And we work and we work and we work all the while

We work and we work and we work and we work

And we work and we work and we do it for what?

For what?

To do it again every day

Fine, that’s fair

I’ll do it again, the same way

I’ll do it, I just wish we didn’t have to

I wish we could just sit outside in the after

Noon, a thick sunlight blanket above us

And wish the sun didn’t burn, but just loved us

When I have to work, I wish I didn’t have to

But when I don’t really have to

I feel guilty, like I have to

How ironic and how cruel

Oh, this sick

withdrawal

Only when I sit outside and

Track the sunlight

Watch it fall

I think maybe there is something

In this world

After all
