The best gifts I have ever received were from two separate people. One was a personal book, and the other a ring.
The first one was a book; yes, a physical book. My boyfriend and I had been having a long distance relationship ever since he left for college and our plan was to meet up again during our winter break. Finally, winter break arrived and we soon met up in my house in Nicaragua. On Christmas day it was going to be our seven month anniversary, so we gave each other gifts. I have to admit that his gift was way better than mine as it was a book full of illustrations of all our memories and inside jokes. It is one of the most thoughtful gifts I could have ever received and I am sure that nothing is going to surpass my emotions on that day.
The other special gift was given to me by my aunt on my mom’s side of the family and it was a ring. Yet, this ring isn’t just any ring, it is the engagement ring of my great-grandmother who had once thought she lost it, but turns out someone had stolen it from her and sold it at a pawn shop. Years later, she found her ring again, only to create the tradition of passing it down to her second daughter which is my grandmother, who later on handed it down to my aunt. My aunt is like a second mother to me and though I do not see her often, she is always on my mind. Also, my aunt has no children so she had no daughter to pass the ring down to. On my mom’s side of the family I am also the only girl so that meant that now the ring could only be handed down to me. The ring is very old fashioned, but it contains small rubies and diamonds along the sides. It also does not fit my chubby fingers, so I have to get it fixed.
These two gifts mean a lot to me as one is a significant part of my life and the other has a full history of its own.
