Death of a Legend: Kobe Bryant’s Passing

American basketball player and National Basketball Association (NBA) star Kobe Bryant passed away along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven others in a tragic helicopter crash on January 26, 2020. 

On Sunday morning, Kobe Bryant’s helicopter was found crashed along a hillside in the outskirts of Calabasas, California. The impact occurred around 9:45 am, and left no survivors. 

Bryant and his daughter were headed to a basketball game in Mamba Sports Academy where she was expected to play with her team in a match. On Tuesday, the LA County Department made an announcement about who else was traveling in the helicopter. The other passengers traveling with them were two teammates with their parents, the basketball team assistant, and the pilot. When the helicopter made an impact with the ground, it caused a bushfire that didn’t let people reach the impact area. Firefighters were needed in this area to access the bodies. Investigators still do not have enough information about the cause of the incident, so it still remains unknown. 

Bryant has a reputation of being one of the greatest players of all time. In his 20 seasons as a player in the NBA, he was part of the Los Angeles Lakers team, a five-time NBA champion, two-time Olympic gold medalist, Academy Award winner, as well to be one of the youngest players from the NBA to start his career in 1996. His daughter, nicknamed Gigi, followed her father’s footstepsinto basketball. People considered her the one who would continue his legacy. She was shown to be very skilled in the sport. 

The NBA player showed his full support to young girls and boys who were pursuing basketball as their passion, making him a legend and role model for people of all backgrounds. His tragic passing has deeply impacted many around the world.
