Pininfarina is now making a car under its own name, the Pininfarina Battista. The creation was unveiled earlier this month at the Geneva Motor Show, where the Italian company announced that it was the most powerful street-legal vehicle ever produced. They claim, it does 0-62mph in less than two seconds, 186mph in less than 12 seconds and has a top speed of more than 250mph.
Ferrari’s best friend
For almost 90 years, Pininfarina has worked as a design and engineering consultant. It is best known for working with Ferrari as it has designed over 60 iconic sport cars for the company like the Enzo Ferrari, F40 and F50. However, the companies were actually rivals at one point. It was not until 1951 that both business were able to reach an agreement. Pininfarina has also designed and in some cases manufactured cars for Ford, Fiat, Peugeot, Alfa Romeo, Lancia and Maserati. This has gained the respect of many supercar buyers.
The company’s talent is evident in the Battista, most notably in the aggressive sculpting of the hood and the car having a simple, yet elegant rising beltline along the flanks. These details are so common in cars designed by Pininfarina that the Battista could easily be Ferrari’s latest V8 supercar. However, the car has no combustion engine as it is all electric. The output of the car’s four motors is nonetheless extraordinary as its brake horsepower (bhp) is 1,873. This means it has approximately twice the brake horsepower than that of a Formula 1 car. The first Battista is expected to be delivered in 2020. By the time it arrives, it won’t be the only electric supercar on the market.
