Every year ANS holds an event called TEDx, which showcases individual student speakers who will be touching on a wide range of subjects they are passionate about. Over 25 students participate in this event, and today we will be meeting one of them: Regina Franco.
Is this your first year in TEDx?
It is my first year.
Are you excited about TEDx?
I’m really excited. I think it’s a really cool thing that the school does. It’s a really good opportunity for the students to be engaged in another aspect of public speaking, but also organizing. I think it’s a really cool opportunity and I’m glad to have joined this year.
Why did you become a speaker?
I was interested in speaking because there was a topic that I was really passionate about and it was something that I wanted to share. But I wasn’t too sure about it until Alexandra (Gomez, junior) came up to me and told me that I should audition to see how it would go and I got accepted.
What will you be speaking about?
My topic has to do with mental health and it’s about having a healthy relationship with emotions.
Why did you choose that topic?
I choose this topic because I think it’s a really important thing to talk about especially here in Latin America, because mental health is something we often neglect and put as a second priority, and I think it’s something we need to talk about more in Nicaragua and Latin America in general.
What advice would you give to people interested in becoming speakers?
This is the advice I would give them. Speak on something you are really passionate about, that you’re not going to get tired of, and that you really believe in.
Check out ANS Tedx this Friday, March 29th from 8 am to 12 pm in the Ossi Room on campus. Tickets are available through Ms. Larson, 12th Grade English Teacher, Room 13, High School Building.
