Ready for AASCA Basketball

It’s a great day to be tiger! On October the 24th to the 28th of this year, our boys’ basketball team will be traveling to San Jose, Costa Rica to represent our school in the unified AASCA Basketball Tournament at the Lincoln School Costa Rica. Our team is placed in Group C against Marian Baker School, Colegio Maya, and Escuela Internacional Sampedrana. The boys have been working really hard since the beginning of the school year to achieve greatness. Tiger News interviewed Steven Zapata, the basketball team’s captain, who shared his thoughts and predictions for the tournament.

How did you prepare for this tournament in such a short amount of time?

Personally, I was always engaged in the sport of Basketball during summer. Whether it was shooting around or playing with friends. When the school year started I tried to make the most out of the short amount of practice time we would have. That means that I had to put even greater effort that I usually did and I think it was the same for the entire team.

What is your forte and what is the team’s strength?

I am a very well rounded player that can do a little bit of everything. I can impact both offense and defense and I think the greatest forte I have is the attitude and pace I can give to my team. As a team our greatest strength is finishing inside the basket, and our speed in fastbreaks.

What team is your biggest competition?

Our biggest competition is Escuela Internacional Sampedrana as they are statistically the strongest team in our group. However, we still plan to play strong against them and try to get the win.

What is you goal?

My goal for AASCA Basketball is to have a positive impact on the team at all times and obviously help my team perform well and win. We have a very enthusiastic and hard working team, and I think that if we focus, and put great effort we can finish in a high position
