Shohei Ohtani is the new sensation in the baseball world as he was allowed to join an MLB team.
Ohtani was the best player on the Nippon Professional Baseball Pacific League in Japan. He is just 23 years old and he took the league by storm as pitcher and also as a batter. His great talent and accomplishments had led him to be praised and desired by all the teams in Major League baseball. He is deemed to be the Japanese Babe Ruth and a once-in-a-generation talent.
After a vast amount of interviews and rejected offers, the free agent decided to sign with the Los Angeles Angels. He publicly said he wanted to go to a winning, small-market team in the west coast.
He committed to the Anaheim team with a long-term contract around 2 millions dollars a year which seems like a steal for a player his caliber. The Angels got him for cheap because of the downside he can get injured easily. It’s a huge risk to play nearly every day as both a pitcher and hitter.
The Angels are looking to make the playoffs this year as they barely missed last year even though they have arguably the best young player in baseball, Mike Trout. He hasn’t started a game yet with the Angels yet but he already blew his elbow and it seems he will need surgery and miss a few months. Even though he will undergo Tommy John surgery(the most dangerous surgery in baseball), his injury is not that serious. Shohei Ohtani will be unpredictable next year, but he looks to transform his team into a contender to be reckoned with.
