On November 16th the ANS soccer team played the Managua soccer team in the Copa America final. It was a tough match that did not result in a win for our tigers. Sadly, our peers could not stand against the Managua team as they lost 1-0 in the 35th minute of the match.
Although it was a bad result, the Tigers left the field happy as some commented that they did not expect ending in such a good place in the competition. Eduardo Bendana the ANS current right back said “Today we leave the field with our heads up high, as we did not expect making it this far in the competition. Of course we wanted to win but this year we can settle for second place, next year the cup will be ours!”. We hope Eduardo can keep his promises and as a team come back next year and snatch the cup.
The match was an intense back and forth game were the winning side could be any of the two teams, but a player from the Managua team took initiative and was able to put a ball in the back of the net.
Also, it was reported that one of our tigers, Diego Velasquez, was severely injured during the game and is currently out for three weeks. Diego suffered a sprained ankle almost half hour after the first whistle of the match. “As a defender tried to take the ball from me I tried to cover it with my body and fell on my ankle, I wanted to play and defend our team but the coach told me to rest.” said Diego about his injury after the game.
Luckily there is always next year where we can come better and stronger. Go Tigers!
