As of now, “It” is officially the highest grossing horror film at the domestic box office. The “Exorcist”, another big horror film, was the recent titleholder with $441 million. “It” crossed the $500 million mark in the box office two weeks after it was premiered.
Sue Kroll, president of worldwide marketing and distribution at Warner Bros, stated that “crossing $500m is rarified air for any film, but for a horror film it is history-making, and we could not be prouder”.
“It” was so successful that the studio behind this film, New Line Cinema, has already set a release date, September 2019, for its sequel. Andy Muschetti will direct the film again. It is set to be 17 years later, but it is not yet known who will play the adult versions of the first film’s children.
