New Grading System

As the 2017-2018 school year begins, it’s essential to know about some new changes in our grading system as there have been some adjustments in assessment and reporting.

In January of 2017, our secondary team formed an eight member committee of local and foreign teachers to review our assessment policies, practices, and procedures.

In an effort towards continuous improvement, the committee focused on: what is working, what needs to be adjusted, and where we want to be in the next three years, in terms of assessment and reporting.

With a focus on accurately reporting student achievement, our committee indicated there were three areas that needed to be addressed.

1. Increased formative feedback for all stakeholders to better understand how to improve before the final grade is submitted.
2. Teachers needed more time to properly assess all skills before a final grade was produced.
3. Students needed more time to show their learning and felt added pressure when teachers had to submit grades for progress reports and quarterly grades.
