This year 10 students from ANS and 25 students from other schools in Nicaragua went on a trip to Mazamitla, Mexico, with the non-profit organization Operation Smile from January 23-28.
This event, called LEA (LatinoAmerica en Accion) is held every year around January in Latin America with the purpose of raising awareness for kids that suffer from cleft lips and also to prepare and find future leaders to work with Operation Smile.
Last year the event took place in Peru, and this year, 13 countries attended this conference, including: Nicaragua, Paraguay, Brasil, Perú, Bolivia, Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador, Panamá, República Dominicana, Honduras, Mexico and Guatemala.
Nicaragua won the delegation for being best dressed, most fun, and also the most involved adult was a Nicaraguan. We also were the biggest delegation in this conference and that was surprising since we had smaller attendance during the last couple of LEA conferences. We have since grown into being one of the biggest delegations attending LEA.
Our students had an amazing time during this conference. They made friends with people all over Latin America and had an outstanding time overall.
The next LEA conference will take place in Republica Dominicana and we are hoping more and more young leaders will be able to attend.
