When was ANS established?
The American Nicaraguan School (ANS), is a private, non-profit, coeducational multicultural institution, founded in 1944.
What grade levels are offered at ANS?
Nursery (PK3) through 12th grade.
How do I apply to ANS?
To begin the application process you may either fill out and submit an Admission Request Form or, schedule an Admissions Consultation on campus or via video conference!
What is the deadline for submitting an application?
ANS has yearlong open enrollment allowing us to take in students each semester, ideally at the beginning of each, in August or January.
Does ANS require specific testing for admission?
Required testing depends on the age of the child applying to attend ANS. Once you have submitted your complete pre-application, your admissions testing will be scheduled.
What is the cost of tuition at ANS?
Yearly tuition depends on your child’s age. Our non-profit school bases its yearly budget on the new student entrance fee (US$ 6,000). We offer flexible financing plans and discounts to Alumni families. Please refer to our Tuition Table.
How many students attend ANS?
ANS maintains a student body of around 850 students.
Where are ANS students from?
40% of ANS students help contribute to our culturally enriched, international student body.
What does a student’s day look like?
For PK3, classes start at 8:00 a.m.
PK4’s school day begins at 7:00 a.m. along with the rest of the school.
PK3 and PK4 end their school day at 12:00 p.m. and the rest of the school at 2:05 p.m.
Does ANS offer campus visits?

Does ANS offer after school activities?
At 2:30 p.m. students in grade levels Kindergarten – 12th can participate in a variety of extracurricular activities such as sports, music, art, robotics, and community service clubs to name a few.
When does the school year start?
The 2020 school year is expected to start on August 12th. The ANS school calendar consists of two semesters with 180 total days of classroom instruction.
What is the language of instruction at ANS?
ANS provides a rigorous academic program through an American curriculum with classes taught in English.
What language courses are offered?
Other than Spanish which is required, students may also take French or Mandarin as an elective course.
Does ANS serve students with special needs?
ANS learning specialists are qualified to provide a variety of services to students with different learning needs, ANS will only offer admission if we can responsibly guarantee academic and social-emotional growth with the services provided on campus.
Is ESL (English as a Second Language) or ELL (English Language Learners) support available?
Yes! Students K – 5th grade may be required to take semester courses to support their language skills, this does pose an additional fee per semester.
Students in 6th grade and beyond must meet English Language requirements for admission.
SSL (Spanish as a Second Language) and SLL (Spanish Language Learners) are available for grades K-12th.
Where do graduates go after ANS?

Does ANS have a school uniform?
Yes, all students are required to wear the formal uniform to school and also when on school-sponsored field trips unless otherwise indicated.
Does ANS provide Bus Service?
ANS does not have a bus service, however many families opt to contract private door to door transportation services.
What accreditations does ANS have?
ANS is accredited by AdvancED through the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACS – CASI) and the Nicaraguan Ministry of Education (MINED).
