ELL Program

ELL Level I

This course involves the introduction of important principles that will serve as a foundation for language acquisition throughout the student’s course of study in the English language. Students are introduced to the new grammatical concepts that are necessary for a more sophisticated understanding of and facility in using the language. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of basic reading skills; developing writing skills; and the study of important aspects of American life and culture. An on-going effort is made to develop students’ ability to express ideas in English and to think in the target language.

ELL Level II

This second year English class will be conducted in the target language. This course involves a review and extension of the principles taught in English 1. Students are introduced to the new grammatical concepts that are necessary for a more sophisticated understanding of and facility in using the language. Emphasis is placed on the refinement of basic reading skills; a greater development of writing skills; and a continued study of the important aspects of American life and culture. An on-going effort is made to develop students’ ability to express ideas in English and to think in the target language. Students will acquire English by speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

ELL Level III

This second year English class will be conducted in the target language. This course involves a review and extension of the principles taught in English 2. Students are introduced to the new grammatical concepts that are necessary for a more sophisticated understanding of and facility in using the language. Emphasis is placed on the refinement of basic reading skills; a greater development of writing skills; and a continued study of the important aspects of American life and culture. An on-going effort is made to develop students’ ability to express ideas in English and to think in the target language. Students will acquire English by speaking, listening, reading, and writing.
