Sixth Grade Summer Reading Project

Dear 6th Graders,

Great books are often turned into blockbuster movies—think “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory”, “Matilda”, “James and the Giant Peach”…the list is endless!  Imagine you are a movie producer, and you must create a poster to sell a movie based on your summer reading book.

First, choose a novel from the following list. You can pick one out in the ANS Library or obtain it on your own.

Island of the Blue Dolphins

Bridge To Terabithia

Kira- Kira

Bud, Not Buddy

There’s a Girl In My Hammerlock

After you read the novel of your choice, you will make the movie poster.

The movie poster MUST include the following elements:

·         The name of the movie/book

·         The name of  the author

·         The names of the actors that would play the main characters of the book. These actors could be famous celebrities or friends and family members.

·         A short paragraph summary that explains the plot of the book

·         At least 2-3 critic’s quotes that praise the book

·         Suitable artwork and pictures

Remember, if your book has already been made into a real movie, do not copy the video box or movie poster!

The poster should be ½ the size of a piece of poster board (12X15).  You may use foam core or other materials if you prefer. Creative materials should be used to create a movie poster effect.

*** Because this is a graded assignment, I have included a rubric on the back of this page so you can see the breakdown of the points you will be given. Please bring your movie poster and  the rubric with you to school on the first day of class. You will present the completed movie poster to your peers.

Goodluck and have fun!
