About Students for CARE

What is Students for CARE?

Students for CARE (Cancer Relief) is a student-facilitated organization designed to benefit children who suffer from cancer. It was founded in 2002 by Lilliam Velázquez, Nicolás Argüello, Antonella Novali, Alejandra Lacayo, and Datha Nix at the American Nicaraguan School in Managua, Nicaragua.

What is Students for CARE's Purpose?

Students for CARE is oriented toward students at the American Nicaraguan School who like children and aren't afraid to go in and visit them at the hospital. Participation in this organization involves extensive contact with children suffering from cancer.

What Are the Activities of the Organization?

The organization's major activities are geared towards meeting the major needs of Hospital "La Mascota" in Managua, Nicaragua in respect to children who are diagnosed with cancer. This includes giving toys to children who are receiving treatment at this hospital, talking about their problems, and sharing messages of hope with them. During the 2002-2003 school year, Hospital "La Mascota" was provided with 20 new beds purchased with funds raised by Students for CARE members. For the 2003-2004 year our goal is to refurbish the Hospital's Play Room.

Who are the Students for CARE Members?

Students for CARE is composed of twenty five regular members, five Executive Members (President, Vice-President, Secretary, Treasurer, and Parliamentarian), and a Faculty Adviser.
