Higher Education in Nicaragua

Requirements to enter a college or university in Nicaragua vary. In most cases, universities will require the successful completion of the Bachillerato, 2 pictures ID size, Cedula or Birth Certificate and a High School Diploma or Certified grades from the senior year. For students wishing to reside in Nicaragua and practice law, it is recommended that they consider attending a university in Nicaragua . In general, universities are less expensive than that of other countries. Education in Nicaragua has undergone tremendous growth during the past few years and there are many opportunities to receive a higher education. Following are links to many Nicaraguan web sites:

Ave Maria College of the America 's

Special thanks to the Admission Counselor at the Ave Maria College of the America's who provided the following information during a Nicaraguan College Fair held at the American Nicaraguan School in November, 2003.

General Information

The Ave Maria College of the America 's is located in San Marcos , Carazo , Nicaragua . The institute offers studies in Business Administration, Economics, Finance Management, Global Business, Marketing, Management and Design, Computer Information System, Political Science, International Relations, Agriculture Business – Aqua Culture and Psychology. It takes four years or less to complete the requirements for a degree. The college is noted for their School of Business .

Entrance Requirements

Complete the application form and submit with a $50 ( U.S. ) application fee. Submit the following documents with the application and fee: High School transcript, copy of the High School Diploma and results of either the SAT, ACT or TOEFL Exam.

Admission Due Date

There is no due date for admissions. The school operates under a system of Rolling Admissions.

 

Entrance Tests

There are placement tests in math, English and Spanish.

Scholarships and Financial Aid for Tuition and Expenses

There is Institutional Aid and Federal Financial Aid available for some students. As tuition, fees, etc can change, please check the school web site for up to date information.

Living Accommodations

There is a Boy's Dormitory and a Girl's Dormitory available. The school also provides services to help out of town students find a place to live. The average cost for living accommodations for students is $1,000 per semester which includes 19 meals per week. The average cost of food per meal is $2.20.

Help for Freshmen

There are freshmen seminars and academic advising two hours daily. Every student has his/her own advisor.

Fields of Study

Pharmacy, Microbiology, (Clinic Chemistry), Law, Interior Decoration, Nutrition, Psychology, Pre-School Education with a major in Child Pedagogic, Business Administration with a major in Marketing and Advertising, Accounting, Computer Engineering, Geoturism, Communications, International Relations UCEM is noted for studies in Pharmacy, Law and Interior Design.

It will take 3 years and 8 months to earn a License and two years and 8 months to earn a Bachelor Degree.

Admission Due Date

Applications for entrance are in November and January.

There are no entrance tests.

Spanish
There are 11 levels of English that may be used in classroom instruction.
