Our services support the delivery of education at each level, and they assist individual students to function with success and dignity
Counselors are available to assist students with the inevitable complications that arise as they adapt to school culture. We recognize that each student is in the process of moving through stages of "growing up". It is rarely a smooth process. Supportive nurturing through the challenging times serves to prepare students better for the next challenges "around the corner". Academic, personal, social, and other issues arise, and they call for counselor intervention.
The preferred way for students and parents to speak with counselors is by appointment through the student services secretary, as there are many demands on their time. The phone number is 278-0029 Ext. 25.
Counselors serve the organizational needs of the school in various ways. Among them, is the construction of schedules and the coordination of meetings among students, their parents, and teachers. Counselors provide a unique perspective that helps the School in making decisions that affect students in significant ways.
The following are among the specific ways that counselors contribute to the school and to students who attend:
respond to teachers to assist with problem solving and advice regarding selected students.
provide ongoing support and advice to students, parents, and teachers.
attend academic meetings to provide valuable perspective and gather information that will assist with students' progress.
assist in the delivery of learning strategies and study skills on individual and group levels.
oversee the course selection process and mediate the various factors that arise as students progress.
organize and administer the range of standardized tests for the school e.g., Stanford, PSAT's, SAT's, AP's, etc., and assist in the interpretation of results.
conduct programs designed to assist with career decision making and post secondary (college) program selection and application.
prepare and conduct programs related to drug abuse, and other socially relevant issues.
prepare and conduct programs and approaches consistent with appropriate virtues, values, and behaviors.
