Chacocente Project - Testimonials

On December 12, 2007, Ms. Cheryl Avery, the Director of the Chacocente Agricultural Community, addressed some 120 Middle School students at a fundraising event. Ms. Avery said on that occasion that “…I did not imagine that it would be like this. The work that you are doing does not simply impact the lives of our community with their immediate needs, but you are building a future. Helping us with the school is the greatest gift that you could give us, and for that we are very grateful. With this, you are helping these children build a new life. Thank you!”

Mr. Craig Radetich, Academic Advisor to the Middle School Student Council said after his first visit to the project in 2006: “This is inspiring. The needs that these people have are great, but their resilience and spirit show that they will make it. They all work together! They help each other and smile a lot. Visiting the project, there is no way one cannot be moved and want to participate.”

Maria Teresa Chamorro, 2007-08 President of the High School Student Council visited the project during the 2007 summer break. After, she asked “why is this just a Middle School project? The whole school should be involved! STUCO (Student Council) will support the Middle School students in every way it can. You can see the difference you are making!”

Diana Abu Shihab, an eighth grade student and group leader during one of the weekend visits, said that “we have to continue! We should come every weekend. I am sure that people would want to. I want to come every time the school comes! When I move to High School, I will continue helping with my friends.”

Migdalia, a 13-year-old child from the project told the ANS Middle School Coordinator: “We get help from different places. Groups come from the States to help build and bring presents. You, I see like brothers and sisters… I can understand you because my English is not very good. Come back often!” (“Nos llega ayuda de diferentes lados. Vienen grupos de los Estados para ayudar a construir y nos traen regalos. A ustedes los veo como hermanos… a ustedes sí les entiendo, porque mi inglés no es muy bueno. ¡Vengan bastante!”)
