= ANS was honored with the visit of Mr. Jon Jarret, one of NASA’s mechanical engineers. Mr. Jarret did a presentation for the 3rd and 4th grade students, who were very eager and excited to learn from him. = We want to thank Room Parents and the PTO for the great Fall Festival that was put together. Your efforts really paid off because the school looked beautiful. The Elementary School really appreciates your continued support and is better every day thanks to your team work. = STUCO is proud to announce that on Jeans Day held last Fri- day, October 31, the Elementary School raised over C$ 4,000 Córdobas. Thank you for your support. = We remind parents, that the School is not responsible for lost or stolen articles. Valuable possessions must not be brought to School. Toys, electronic devices such as mp3 players, and other unnecessary items should also be left at home (see Parent–Student Handbook, pg. 15). |

There you will find new and very useful information for parents and students as well as articles on how to help students with their homework and how to better communicate with them. = Middle School is getting ready to host the 5th An- nual Health Forum to be held on Wednesday, November 26. Its purpose is to provide our student body with the opportunity to speak directly with health professionals, listen to talks on different specialties, and receive answers to their questions. |

= Many thanks to all the parents, students and teach- ers who made this year’s Fall Festival a huge success. Nearly 2,000 people attended the event. = Students in Ms. Valle’s Civics classes will partici- pate in a mock municipal election. The activity is intended to bring attention to the relevant issues voters face when selecting their candidate of choice and to highlight the positions the various parties take on a number of issues. = Secondary students are looking forward to this se- mester’s Spirit Week which will be held the week of November 24. Spirit Week activities are designed to be fun and exciting and help raise school spirit and pride. |

Extracurricular Athletic Events Coming Up at ANS: · November 5-6: Copa America XIX play-offs at ANS (volleyball, soccer & basketball). · Thursday, November 6: First Pirañas Jr. Swimming Contest, ANS vs. Doris Maria Elementary. · Friday, November 7, 2:30-6 pm: Las Pirañas ANS X Anniversary Swimming Competition. Ten clubs from Managua, 200 swimmers expected. · November 10-13, 2:20 to 3:20 pm: V Elementary Olympic Games. For 4 days, all Elementary students participate in different Olympic activities. Schedule of activities available on the webpage. · November 10-13, 3:30 to 5 pm: Varsity Teams Week. For 4 days, varsity teams play vs. faculty teams (soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball). · Friday, November 14, 2:30 to 5 pm: Secondary Track & Field Dual Meet, ANS vs. Bautista. · Friday, November 14: After-school practices end. They resume on Monday, January 19, 2009. · Friday, November 21: II Elementary Soccer Intramural Games end. Closing ceremony at 10:30 am on the Elementary soccer field. |

= CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR ADVANCED PLACEMENT SCHOLARS! The AP Scholar Award is granted to students who achieve a grade of 3-5 (5 is the highest score) on three or more AP Exams. 2008 AP SCHOLARS: Nelson Estrada and Young Rak Kim. The AP Scholar with Honor Award is granted to students who achieve an average grade of at least 3.25 on ALL exams taken and grades of 3-5 (5 is the highest score) on four or more AP Exams. 2008 AP SCHOLARS WITH HONOR: Gabriela Hidalgo, Bettina Lemm, and Priscilla Sevilla. The AP Scholar with Distinction Award is granted to students who achieve an average grade of at least 3.5 on ALL exams taken and grades of 3-5 (5 is the highest score) on five or more AP Exams. 2008 AP SCHOLAR WITH DISTINCTION: Cristina Sarmiento. = Mrs. Vaughan has been invited by Colegio Teresiano to speak with 3rd and 5th year students about the university application process outside of Nicaragua. The American Nicaragua School is pleased to be able to support the Nicaraguan community. = The Colleges of the Fenway (6 colleges in Boston, MA) will visit ANS Seniors on November 12 through a videoconference. This is the first conference held with numerous universities attending at once. = ALL SENIORS AND THEIR PARENTS: Friday, No- vember 21, is the TRANSCRIPT REQUEST FORM DEADLINE for all colleges and universities with deadlines prior to February 1st. Fall Festival was a great success; 1,994 people attended. We would like to thank all parents, students, teachers, and support staff for their great enthusiasm and support to the Fall Festival. Kids had a lot of fun. We will inform you the amount of funds raised shortly. |

Due to a change in the initial decree issued by the Ministry of Labor, ANS WILL hold classes on Friday, November 7. However, Monday, November 10, has been declared a National Holiday and, therefore, the School will be closed. |
