The American Nicaraguan School

= We invite parents to be part of the next Tiger Meeting to

be held this Friday, October 24, at the following times: 10:15 am, K5–2nd grade; and 11:15 am, 3rd–5th grades. Hope to see you there.

= Congratulation parents for your participation on Report

Card Day; 82% of all Elementary report cards were picked up! We remind those parents who have not had a chance to do it, to stop by the Elementary Office to pick up their child’s report card.

ELEMENTARY

= Sixth grade students created quilts for English

class. The drawings are representations of Indian culture and the novel they read, Homeless Bird. These quilts have been on display in the Library since October 14.

= The 6th grade Ancient Civilizations classes are cre-

ating an Egyptian Museum. As of October 31, Room 205 will be full of mummies, masks, painted papyrus, amulets, pyramids, jewelry, gods, goddesses, pharaohs, and queens. Ask a 6th grader to take you on a guided tour.

= We are pleased that 89.3% of the Middle School

report cards were collected last Tuesday. If you did not have a chance to come, please stop by the Middle School Office to pick up your child’s.

ELEMENTARY

= The American Nicaraguan School is the only

school in Nicaragua with such an extensive extracurricular program. ANS students enjoy opportunities to participate in both local and international activities in the areas of athletics, leadership, academics, community service, and the performing arts. The ANS extracurricular program is just one of the reasons why ANS is the BEST school in all of Nicaragua. 

= For the first time, ANS students are preparing to

participate in a Model United Nations (MUN) Conference. Ms. Anderson will be preparing 20 of our best debaters for the Conference being held in Costa Rica this coming spring. 

= Mr. Cunliffe and members of the ANS Knowl-

edge Bowl Team are preparing for the upcoming AASCA Knowledge Bowl Conference being held from November 6-9 in Guatemala City.   

= Senior Contracts were distributed on Report Card

Day and must be returned to the School, signed by both the student and one of his/her parents. Seniors need to get their signed contracts into the Secondary Office by no later than Friday, October 24. Blank contracts can be obtained from the High School Office.

ELEMENTARY

= Make sure to clear your agenda between October 27 and

November 6 to come and support ANS soccer, basketball and volleyball teams that are participating in the XIX Copa America. The last games of the classifying round and play off matches will be played on those days.

= On November 6 & 7 our swimming team, Las Pirañas,

will celebrate its tenth anniversary with a competition in which 8 teams and more than 100 swimmers will be participating. Besides school competitors, members of our team who are also members of the Nicaraguan National team and national record holders will participate in an exhibition race. Everyone is invited to come.

ELEMENTARY12

= Mr. Tom Fitzgibbons from Kendall College will

be on campus on Thursday, October 23.

= Mrs. Vaughan will visit the Junior English classes

on October 23. Please ask her about the College Safari Folder that was distributed.

= Due to Mrs. Vaughan’s presentation during the

CIS Institute in Costa Rica, many more universities are interested in visiting the American Nicaraguan School either in person or through videoconferences.

FALL FESTIVAL

We invite you to our annual Fall Festival on Friday, October 31, at 6:15 pm. If you want to save time, tickets are available at the Cashier's office for C$15. There will be great games and food! We hope to see you there.

READAK COURSE

ANS Grade 5-12 Parents: If interested in this course, please remember to complete the Readak registration form and return it to the appropriate school office as soon as possible. The course will now begin on October 25 and 27 and will last 3 weeks. Don’t forget to choose 2 class options from the schedule list. The Readak teacher is already here ready to answer your questions, meet with parents, students and faculty, confirm the schedule of classes, and generally become familiar with our school community.
