The American Nicaraguan School

= We want to thank Room Parents for the great Nicaraguan

Independence Day Celebration they helped us put together. Your efforts truly paid off. The School looked beautiful and every room had many things to share. The Elementary School really appreciates the continued support. The School is better every day thanks to the joint efforts of parents and teachers.

= We ask parents, drivers, and maids not to interrupt

classes when dismissal time is approaching. Please DO NOT knock, or open doors, or enter classrooms.

= Attention 4th & 5th Parents: The results of the Stanford

Tests are available at the Elementary Office for parents to pick up.

= Parents, if a child requires medication while in School,

you must first provide a written authorization to the school nurses in order for them to dispense medication sent from home. This authorization must include complete instructions as to dosage and times of day the medication is to be administered. The nurses are the only persons authorized to administer medication (see Parent–Student Handbook, page 10).

= Last week, Mr. Rodolfo Narvaez, Middle School Co-

ordinator, had a breakfast meeting with the new students in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades to welcome them and ask their opinions and impressions of the school.

= Happy Birthday Nicaragua! We would like to con-

gratulate all Middle School students and teachers who participated in our Independence Day celebration that was held last Friday, September 12. You all did a great job. Keep up the good work!

= The Middle School Community Service Project,

Chacocente, is dedicated to helping families that used to live in Managua’s Municipal Dump, La Chureca. Our project raises funds for Chacocente’s school and our students visit them frequently to work on classrooms, provide educational materials and support its students. We are very proud to announce that this past year, Chacocente was given the AASCA Award for Outstanding Community Service.

celebrate Nicaraguan Independence. Many thanks to the Modern Languages Department and to all the student participants for making this year’s celebration a great success.

= Congratulations to the United Hands community ser-

vice organization for being selected as the 2008 recipient of the Casa Pellas Community Service Award. Faculty sponsor Conchita Lanzas and student President Gabriela Solorzano Picasso lead more than 50 student volunteers in their work with the underprivileged children at the Lumen Cristi School.

= In approximately one month (October 15), all 10th

and 11th grade students will be taking the PSAT exam, which is a practice exam designed to help students prepare for the SAT, the college entrance exam required by a majority of U.S. colleges and universities. Grade 11 students performing particularly well on the PSAT will be considered for the very prestigious National Merit Scholarship.
